Providence and Environmental Justice

Since 2019, Providence has used the WE ACT framework to reduce carbon emissions across the family of organizations by over 20% in 7 categories. The 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance Report details our progress.

·    Over 100 Providence health care facilities in WA, OR, and TX are operating on 100% renewable electricity.

·    We have reduced carbon emissions from anesthetic agents by 66%.

·    Environmental stewardship initiatives save $40 million annually compared to our 2019 baseline.

·    In 2024, all Providence hospitals earned the Sustainable Healthcare Certification from The Joint Commission.

We have designed and developed a one-of-a-kind environmental stewardship database and scorecard to guide decisions and reporting.
