INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE

Integrative Medicine

Dr. Melissa Hemphill completed the University of Arizona Integrative Medicine Fellowship and works with interested residents to complete the Integrative Medicine elective.

Integrative Medicine (IM) is healing-oriented medicine that treats a person holistically, including all aspects of their medical history, health beliefs and lifestyle. IM emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between providers and patients, as well as empowers patients to improve their health through a variety of integrative modalities. Studies show that the majority of our patients take supplements or herbal remedies and rely on alternative medicine. Familiarity with IM will help you take better care of these patients.

Residents can opt-in to a 200+ hour Integrative Medicine in Residency track in their PGY2 and PGY3 years under supervision of Dr. Melissa Hemphill. The track uses evidence-based course material from University of Arizona’s Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine (AwCIM), one of the premier integrative teaching centers in the United States. The Integrative Medicine track features online modules, in-person clinical electives and regular IM track meetings for case reviews and hands-on teaching. Dr. Hemphill completed the University of Arizona Integrative Medicine Fellowship in 2015.
